Mandatory Vaccination Policy

LAST UPDATED 14 Dec 2021

As notified by the Government of Western Australia, Department of Training and Workforce Development based on the latest health advice, a mandatory vaccination policy for specified occupations and workforces within WA is being introduced by the State Government. The policy applies to workers in high-risk industries, those interacting with people at an increased risk of being infected with COVID-19, or people who are vulnerable to the impacts of COVID-19, or other critical workers.

The WA Government Mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy now applies to occupations in many industries. More information can be found on the WA Government website and in the WA Department of Health’s frequently asked questions.

As you may be aware, vocational education providers, such as TAFE Colleges and private registered training organisations (RTO) are listed in Group 2 industries and occupations because they are deemed critical to the ongoing delivery of services to the community.

The Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) encourages all RTOs contracted by DTWD to follow the mandatory vaccination policy and make sure that their staff have their first vaccination dose by 31 December 2021 and be fully vaccinated by 31st January 2022.

While the Public Health Act directions are still to be released, it seems likely that students doing work placements or on-the-job training in Group 1 or Group 2 industries will be required to be vaccinated in accordance with the dates applicable to the industry group.
